Build a Window Box Planter
1. Cut two 30" pieces
from the 6' board for
the front and back of
the planter.
2. For the bottom, cut a 30" piece
from the 4' board. Set the bevel of
the saw at 10° and rip the piece so
it is 5" wide at its widest face.
Use the right fasteners.

3. Cut two pieces from the
scrap boards 5 7/8"wide and 6
3/8" tall. Mark and cut the
pieces so they taper from 5 7/8"
at the top to 5' at the bottom.
Assemble the Pieces
1. Lay out the
pieces and dry
fit them
together as
shown. Make
any
adjustments
indicated by
the dry fit.
2. Glue and clamp the pieces together. Predrill countersink
holes through faces of the front and back pieces as needed.
Use 1 1/2" screws to screw the pieces together. Use buttons
to cover the screws.
3. Drill 1/8" holes in the bottom of
the planter for drainage.
4. Stain and seal the planter.

Build a Window Box Planter
Anchor the Window Box
1. Cut two pieces of your 1x8
material into 1" by 2" strips. The
strips will act as spacers between
the window box and the wall to
allow air to circulate between them.
2. Align the tops of the strips with the top of the back piece on
the window box. Drill pilot holes through the back of window
box and the strips.
3. Use 2 1/2" hot-dipped galvanized screws to secure the
window box to the wall.
