Image Number 75 - Liver, alcoholic cirrhosis
Arrow 1 highlights the extensive fibrosis of cirrhosis. Notice that the connective tissue, seen in green here, has walled off areas of liver parenchyma into nodules. Arrow 2 indicates an area of hepatocytes which have stained red. Arrow 3 shows an area of macrovesicular fatty change. Another hallmark of cirrhosis, not seen here, is abnormal arteriovenous connections in the portal area such that the parenchyma of the liver is not perfused adequately.
