Tailor the Development Process for the Project
Main Description
Decide How to Use Work Products
Make a decision about what work products are to be used and how they are to be used. In addition to
identifying what work products are to be used, it is also important to also tailor each work product to be used to fit
the needs of the project.
The table below specifies which Configuration and Change Management work products are recommended and which are
considered optional (i.e., may only be used in certain cases). For additional tailoring considerations, see the
tailoring section of the work product description page.
Work Product
Purpose
Tailoring (Optional, Recommended)
Change Request
Used to track requested changes to project work products, including defects.
Recommended for most projects.
Configuration Audit Findings
Used to record the results of a configuration audit.
Optional.
Generally associated with more formal processes.
Configuration Management Plan
Describes all Configuration and Change Control Management (CCM) tasks to be performed during the the
product or project lifecycle.
Optional
Project Repository
Stores all versions of project files and directories.
Recommended.
A configuration management system to track versions of files and builds is recommended for all
projects.
Workspace
Provides a private development area within which a team member can make changes to work products
without the changes becoming immediately visible to others.
Recommended for most projects.
