Subject: POWER STEERING PUMP MOTOR FAILURES
Models Affected: E30-50FR Built With Hydro-Mechanical Steer
Description:
A possible cause of intermittent steer pump motor failures has been identified. Symptoms of
this failure include Error 59 - Steer Motor Current Not Present . The steer pump motor will
fail to run in Steer motor output test O-02 in the on-board diagnostic menu.
A defective end head assembly in the steer pump motor may cause this condition. It is been
determined there may have been deformed brush springs that will come to rest on the
housing after a small amount of brush wear. This situation can cause the brush to loose
contact with the armature in an intermittent fashion.
The condition can be confirmed with a slight rap from a hammer on the motor end head while
trying to run the motor in the diagnostic output test. If the motor begins to run, the brush
springs can be considered faulty and should be replaced and the recommended repair action
is to replace the motor end head assembly with part number 1455148. Warranty
reimbursement will not be considered unless the failure occurs during the normal warranty
period.
If end-heads are not available from the Parts Distribution Center, complete motors may be
used to resolve the problem. You must first contact your Resident Service Engineer for
authorization to use a complete motor if the repairs are being performed during the normal
warranty period only.
Note! Worn brushes will not be considered for warranty reimbursement.
Note! Electric-steer models are not subject to this issue.
