He knelt on the bed, drawing her close to the heat of his naked body, burying his face in her fragrant hair, breathing in the scent of spring flowers, while she trembled with the chill of winter in his arms. He rubbed her back through the soft white flannel of her gown, sliding his hands beneath the unbound waves that tumbled to her waist, absorbing her shivers. Soon she warmed beneath his touch. Her shivers subsided, her muscles relaxed until she released her tight hold around his neck, until she drew back, sitting on her heels. "I shouldn't be here." She slid her hands over his shoulders, a light brush of cool palms that whispered like a summer breeze across the fires flickering deep within him. "I'm not sure why I came." He touched her lips, absorbing the warmth of her breath against his fingertip. "Aren't you?" She smiled, a curve of her lips that spoke of a battle hard fought, and a victory found only in surrender. "Perhaps I am." He brushed his fingertips over her cheek. She appeared sculpted in the moonlight that kissed her face, her skin smooth white marble. Yet she was warm and soft beneath his touch. "I thought once with you might be enough." She slid her hands down his chest, spreading her fingers wide, as though she wanted to absorb him through her skin. He sighed as she drew her nails lightly over his nipples, his muscles tensing with pleasure beneath her touch. "But now I find I want you more than before."
