OUILLING ...

This ancient craft, dating back to the I5th cen tury, is also known as paper fifigrce.

Very popular in Europę, quHling flourished especially in France and Italy during the I7th and I8th centuries within the clois-tered walls of convents. The nuns, working only with feather quills to form the delicate scrolls, volutes and rolls, brought this craft to it ‘s highest perfection. These feather quills even-tually gave the art it ’s finał name. Some of these artistic crea-tions still can be tiewed in old churches, homes, and museums.

As early as the last quarter of the I6th cen tury. quilling was taught and madę in the eastern parts of the United States. During the I800's quilling became all but forgotten. Only after the tum of this cen tury did this tovely and delicate art make a comeback as a form of handicraft. The recent revival of the art of quilling, the awi/ability of all materials and tools, and, of course. the introduction of easy-to-follow designs and instructions, will give quilling a i>ermunent place in the homes of many handicrafters.

This book is primarily a design book for quilling, with instructions on how to quill, basie quilling shapes and forms. How-ever, good designs are not necessarily limited to the art or craft for which they were originally intended. The designs can be used for stitchery, tole painting, metal embossing. foam mag-netics, glamour glass, china painting, mosaics, stained glass. batik, leathereraft, etchings, and many morę.

These original design patterns, never published before, can open the doors of creatirity producing outstanding decorator items you 11 take pride in eshibiting or giving.
