Raglan Sweater in Shaker Knitting

Size: 8/10

Yarn: Apprtw. 800 g (28 o:) tweed-colored virgm wool/alpaca yarn approx. HOm (121 yds)/50g (IV* o:)

Basic paltem: Single shaker knitting worked on size 3 needle*

Row I (WS): ScK st. * kl m, slip 1 sr purłwise with yo *, kl. selv st Row 2 (RS): Sclv st. pl. * k the st tog with the yo. pl 5, >elv st Repcat Rows 1 and 2.

Gauge: 16 st and M rows = 4" x 4" Ribbing: Altematcly kl. pl on sizc » needles

Back: Cast on 99 >t and work in ribbing tor 1Start the tir-r row on WS with selv st. kl.

Continue in single shaker knirring. When the piece is 14V long. start dccreasing for the raglan s!eeve edges, on both sides, 2 st lx. then 2 st every eigluh row 8x. and 2 st every fourth row 1 lx. Work these dcc 4 st in from the edge in cach case: At the right edge, slip rhe tifth si - k -a with the y«> purłwise, k the ncxt 2 st tog with the yo, and pass the slipped st over with the yo. On the left side. 7 st hetore the end of rhe row, k the nexr 3 st with the yo ( = 5 loops) tog.

When rhe piece is 28" long, 4 rows utier the List dcc. bind ołTf the re-maining 19 st.

Front: Work like the back. but when the piece ts 25W long (with the seecnth dcc In the fourth row; hetore these dcc, there aro still 39 m on the needle), bind ofł the center 19 st. then 2 st 2x and I st lx, cvcry orher row, on both sides, for the neckline.

I-c'ft slecve: Cast on 38 st and work in ribbing for 1 1i". Start the (irst row on WS with selv st, kl.

Continue tn single shaker knitting, and in the (irst row, inc I st purl twisted after rhe sclv st. then 2 st 5x cvenly distributed (49 st). For the double mc. work 1 st purl twisted front the horfeontal threaJ after a knit sr. k the next st, then inc 1 sr purl twisted front the horizontal thread.

For the sl.mted edges of the sleevc, on both sides inc 1 <r every sixth row 12x, then inc 1 st altcrnately every fourth and sixrh row 8x (89 st). If you work double iitcrcases, 2 st havc ro be inc every twelfth row 6x. then 2 st cvcry tcnch row 4x (sce also page 131).

When the piece is 1534" long, dcc 2 st lx for the raglan seam, then 2 sr cvcry fourth row I2x, as dcscribed for the back. Otntinue decreasing as follows: On the right side, dcc 2 st every eigluh row 7x. On the left skIc. dec 2 <r evcry cighth row 5x, after another 8 rows, 4 >t evcry other row 2x, and 2 sr lx. Then bind oft the rentaining 3 st.

Work the right s!eeve in revcrse. Finishing: Sew the raglan seams, then sew rhe side seams and s!eeve seams (sec sewing seams, page 113). For the ncckband. pick tip 70 st on a short si:e 3 circul.ir needle. and work in round tn ribbing for 234*. Bind rhe stitches off looscly. Tum the neckband in and sew it on.
