1 __Back then, I was a typical, outgoing boy of five. Yet I was living in Israel, a

nation at war, so my races weren't always play. Sprinting from my family's apartment into the underground barracks, I heard fighter jets screaming overhead to meet enemy warplanes at our borders. That's the first time I can remember being scared, and it's one of my most intense memories.

2 _ Then one day , my parents decided to take our family away from fear, and

far away from war. We moved to Montreal. They both spoke French, and Canada was a neutral country. Here I noticed that people who looked different from one another seemed to get along and actually have fun together. They weren't fighting or trying to kill each other.

3 _ Neither of my parents had ever received a formal education or acquired a

specialized skill. Together, they worked hard to support our family, but, somehow, there was always too much month left at the end of the money. So I began to work when I was eight doing odd jobs. Soon, I joined a smali group of kids who were adept at shoplifting and other petty crimes. Though not entirely comfortable with stealing and fighting (mostly me getting beaten up) I enjoyed the perks of petty theft.

4 _ Then I got a job in the gym at the community center. In addition to my

smali salary, 1 received access to the men's health club. I loved the job because many rich and successful men hung out there after work. They were talking about their life... the life I wanted. I was fascinated as much by their setbacks as their successes. They gave me Insplration, I learned that it was normal to have challenges, but you should never give up on pursuing your dreams.
