The traces of concern on the Masa i warrior's face, Fig. 114, indicated by the slight furrowing ot the forehead and the rather tight lips, show that a mini-mal amount of carving can create a subtle expres-sion. Fig. 115 shows the jester peering from behind a mask — What is he thinking? — perhaps he is ashamed of being laughed at, or just got stage fright. The lines on the forehead are somewhat stylised, but this is in keeping with the whole figurę and is reminis-cent of theatrical make up.
