Sensory input fiom the vestibular apparatus is used to maintain sta-bility of the head and to maintain balance and posturę. Axons con-vey vestibular information to the vestibular nudei in the pons, and then sccondary axons distribute this Information to five sites: spinał cord (muscle control), cerebellum (vermis), reticular tormation (vt>m-iting center), extraocular niuscles, and cortex (ronscious perception). This figurę shows only the spinał cord pathways.
