/ Secreted IgA binds to microbes and prevents them from attaching to or penetrating the epithelial lining

/ Demonstrated for bacteria and viruses

2. Neutralization

/ Secreted IgA binds to microbial toxins at sites, which either inactivate the toxin’s^ enzymatic properties or inhibit the toxin’s ability to attach to target cells
