DIGEST OF GENERAL RULES FOR JUDO CONTEST
It is commonly reąuired in Judo contest that the player s be clean and well-groomed - fingernails and toenails cut short and smooth. Ornaments or articles such as rings, etc. . are forbidden. Reg-ulation Judo-gi (Judo uniform) must be worn.
Points and half-points are awarded for Throws and Holds. Specific procedures within the generał rules are decided beforehand and the Referee is the finał authority in determining the contest.
A contestant may shift into a lying position for groundwork if he falls while applying a throw, or his opponent falls; if an attempted throw is not com-pleted but the Thrower has weakened balance of his opponent and shifts into lying position without inter-ruption and resumes the offensive; if a contestant applies a standing choke or lock which enables him to take his opponent to ground without interruption and resumes the offensive.
Time out is ordinarily called if a contestant needs to adjust his uniform; when a contestant commits any forbidden act; during a groundwork clinch; at the discretion of the Referee.
A one-point judgement is usually madę on the basis of a fully executed throw; in groundwork when a contestant holds his opponent for 30 seconds; in Choking when the effect of the techniąue is obvious to the Referee.
Half-point judgement is sometimes madę for throw-ing techniąue which is complete but not sufficiently good form to merit fuli point; holding techniąue held for morę than 25 seconds.
At the discretion of the Referee (and by the rules determined before the contest), there may be judgement of a Win by Superiority.
