LACE CARDIGAN
This prctty cardigan, knitted in a simple four row lace paltem, is ideał for leaming how to shape knitting whilc keeping the patiem correct (see page 74). The neck edge has eyelet holes through which a ribbon is threadcd and the moss stitch button and buttonhole bands use the technique of picking up stitches evenly down the fronts (see page 68) and making buttonholes (see page 69).

Worsted (DK) weight merino wool yam (I09yd/I00m per bali): 8[9:10] x I /4oz/50g balls in colour lilac
8[8:9] buttons
34in (86cm) of !4in (0.6cm) wide ribbon in colour to match
NEEDLES
Size 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles Size 6 (4mm/UK8) needles
Gaugc (Tcnsion)
22 sts and 28 rows to 'lin (lOcm) measured over lace pattern on size 6 (4mm/UK8) needles
Lace pattern for gauge (tcnsion) square
Using size 6 (4mm/UK8) needles. cast on 31 sts.
Row I (RS) KI." yfwd. k I. sk2po. k I. yfwd. k I: rep from • to end. Row 2 P to end.
Row 3 KI. * k I. yfwd. sk2po. yfwd. k2: rep from • to end.
Row 4 P to end.
Rep these 4 rows for at least 6n (I5cm).
Bmd (cast) off.
Measure your gauge (tcnsion)
(see page 31).
To fit bust/chcst 30/32[34/36:38/40]in (76/81.5(86.5/91.5:96.5/101.5)cm)

Using size 1 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles. cast on 85|97:I00| sts.

This forms moss st.
Rep this row 3 times morę.
Changc to size 6 (4mm/UK8) needles.
Start lace pan.

Cont in lace pan as set. and working extra sts into palt. inc 1 st at each end of next and every foli 8th row to 97(109:121] sts. Cont wilhout shaping umil hack measures 8(8ł//:9)in (20.5(21.5:23]em) from heg, ending with a WS row.
SHAPE ARMHOLES
Keeping palt correct, bind (cast) off 5(7:9) sts at heg of next 2 rows.
Dec I st at each end of ncxt 7(7:9) rows. 73(81:85) sts.
Cont in patt wilhout 'Tiaping umil
armhole measures 8(8'//:9)in
(20.5(21.5:23)cm). ending with a WS row.
SHAPE SHOULDERS
Bind (cast) off 7(7:8) sts at heg of next -1

LEFT FRONT_
Using size 3 (3.25mm/UKlO) needles. cast on 43(49:55) sts and work 4 rows in moss st as givcn for hack.
Changc to size f» (4mm/UK8) needles and work 4 rows in lace palt as givcn for hack.
SHAPE SIDE EDGE
Cont in lace patt as set. and working cxtra sts into palt. inc I st at heg of ncxt and on same edge of cvcry following 8th row to 49(55:61) sts.
Cont in patt wilhout shaping umil front measures same as hack to armhole shaping. ending at side edge.
SHAPEARMHOLE
Bind (cast) ofT 5(7:9) sts at heg of ncxt row. Work I row.
Dec I st at armhole edge on foli 7(7:9) rows. 37(41:43) sts.
Cont in patt wilhout shaping uulil armhole is 21 rows less tltan hack to shoutder shaping. ending at front edge. SHAPE NECK

Work as givcn for left front reversing all shapings.
SLEEYES (BOTHAL1KE)_
Using size 3 (3.25mm/UK 10) needles. cast on 43(49:55) sts and work 4 rows in moss st.
Changc to size 6 (4mm/lJK8) needles and work 4 rows in lace patt as given for hack. Cont in patt as set. and working cxtra sts into patt, inc I st at each end of ncxt and cvcry foli 6th row to 67(69:71 J sts. then at each cml of every foli 8th row to 75(81:87) sts.
Cont in patt wilhout shaping umil slccvc measures I7( 18:19|in (43|45.5:48.5)cm). ending with a WS row.
