stitch Guide

Increase while picking up sts for edging: Pick up and knit next st, yo, knit same st again—2 sts inc’d.

Make Bobble (MB): (KI, yo, kl, yo, kl) all in same st, insert left needle through all 5 sts and k5tog through back loop—1 st inc’d to 5 and then dec’d back to 1.

Edging: (multiple of 7 sts + edge sts)

Row 1 (body): With smaller needle and A, pick up and knit 1 st in each of first 2 (2, 3, 3, 2) sts (edge sts), inc in next st (see Stitch Guide), *pick up and knit 1 st in each of next 4 sts, inc in next st; rep from * across, end pick up and knit 1 st in each of last 3 (2, 4, 3, 3) sts (edge sts).

Row 1 (sleeves): With smaller needle and A, pick up and knit 1 st in each of first 2 (3,

2,    2, 3) sts (edge sts), inc in next st (see Stitch Guide), *pick up and knit 1 st in each of next 4 sts, inc in next st; rep from * across, end pick up and knit 1 st in each of last 2 (3,

3,    2, 3) sts (edge sts).

Row 2: (WS) Knit.

Row 3: With B, *knit edge sts, MB in each of next 3 sts (see Stitch Guide); *k4, MB in each of next 3 sts; rep from * across to edge sts, knit to end.

BO all sts loosely.

NOTES

♦    Filet knitting charts are not worked like normal charts. Each hlock in the Filet chart represents three stitches (but only one row). So the 15-stitch chart shows only five blocks per row, but each błock represents three stitches—hence the chart is worked over 15 stitches. For each white or shaded błock in the Filet chart, you work a three-stitch row from the smaller Mesh charts. You can think of the Filet chart as a diagram for working the Mesh charts.

♦    Whipstitch all patches together (including shoulder seams) with wrong sides together, to create a decorative ridge on the right side.

♦    Each square measures 3/ (3/2, 4'A, 4A, 4A)" before seaming. Seaming will reduce the cumulative width and height of the squares in the yoke.

FILET PATCHES

Make 20: 8 with C and 6 each with colors A and B—10 patches each for back and front yokes. With appropriate color and smaller needles, CO 16 (16, 19, 19, 19) sts—1 edge st plus 15 (15, 18, 18, 18) sts to be worked from Filet chart. Knit 1 WS row. Next row: (RS) Kl, work Row 3 (3, 1,1,1) of chart, not working st shown in green for two smaller sizes. Next row: (WS) Work next row of chart for your size to last st, kl. Work through end of chart for your size. BO all sts.

YOKES

Notę: Back and front yokes are identical except for arrangement of filet patches (see

diagrams). With D threaded on tapestry needle, sew patches tog as shown on diagrams (see Notes), making two separate yokes.

BODY

With RS of one yoke facing, smaller needle, and D, pick up and knit 60 (64, 72, 76, 80) sts along bottom edge of yoke—15 (16, 18, 19, 20) sts for each patch. Change to larger needles. Work in St st and shape armholes as foli: Inc 1 st each end of row every other row 3 times—66 (70, 78, 82, 86) sts. Work even until piece measures 12" from pick-up row. BO all sts loosely. With smaller needles and A, work Rows 1-3 of edging (see Stitch Guide) along BO edge,
