11'you’re having difficulties in adjusling your antcnna. chcck thc following:

a. Ali doors musi be closcd w hen adjusting Ihc antcnna

b. Make surę thc antcnna basc is grounded.

c. Chcck your coaxial cablc routing (it may be pinehed w hen routed into thc car)

d. Try a different location in your car (kceping in tnind thc radiation pattern you wish.) c. Is the antcnna perlectly yertical?

f. Try a different location in your neighborhood. Slay away front large metal objeets w hen adjusling (metal tclcphonc polis or light post. fenees. etc.)

The transceirer will opera te into an SUR of 2 to I indefinitely and sustain an SU R of 20 : l for a maxintum of 5 ininutes at rated operating conditions.

EXTERNALSPEAKER

Ute external speaker jaek (EX I SP.) on the rear panel is used for remote reeeiver monitoring. The e.\ternal speaker should havc 8 ohms impedancc and be able to handle at least 4 watts. Whcn the cxtcrnal speaker is plugged in. the intcriuil speaker is diseonneeted.

CHAPTER 3 OPERATION

FRONT PANEL

1. ON/OFF YOLUME CONTROL : I his knob Controls thc voIumc and power to thc radio. To tum radio on. rotatc thc knob clockwisc. Tuming thc knob furthcr will incrcasc thc volumc of thc rcccivcr.

2. SQUELCH CONTROL : 1 his switch is uscd to cliininate background noisc bcing hcard through thc reccivcr uhich can bc disturbing whcn no transmission are bcing hcard through thc rcccivcd. To usc this fcature, tum thc switch fully countcrclockwisc and thcn tum clockwisc slowly until thc background noisc is just climinatcd. I-urthcr clockwisc rotation will incrcasc thc thrcshold level which a signal nmst ovcrcomc in order to bc hcard. Onlv strong signal will bc hcard at a maximum clockw isc setting.

3. MIC GAIN CONTROL : Adjust thc microphone gain in thc transmit modes. This Controls thc gain to thc cxtcnt that fuli talk power is available scYcral inchcs away from thc microphone.

•4. RF GAIN CONTROL : This control is uscd to rcducc thc gain of thc RF aniplificr under strong signal conditions.
