The per capita death ratę of COVID-19 seems to vary significantly between different population sub-groups, with BAME people suffering at approximately twice the national average in the U.K.

• The proportion of people dying with COVID-19 appears to vary considerably by different ethnic groups, even after accounting for differences in age, sex and geographic location, according to analysis by the ONS in the U.K.

•    In particular, BAME people appear to suffer twice the number of deaths per capita than the national average in the U.K.

•    Work is ongoing to understand this, though given the extent of difference, it is likely that these differences are not simply caused by statistic anomalies from sample-size

•    Sociological factors, such as the proportion of front linę workers with greater exposure to the virus, or the level of pre-existing medical conditions amongst different ethnicity groups, are important and have not yet been assessed in published studies

•    Beyond sociological factors, medical differences - such as levels of vitamin D - are being investigated further. These may shed additional light on how the virus affects different people, and what the most effective treatments might be
