THE CHANGES IN THE COURSE OF THE PROSNĄ RIVER BETWEEN KALISZ AND THE MOUTH OF THE RIVER
Su mm ary: This work analyses the changes in the course of the Prosną River between Kalisz and the river's mouth. The analysis is based on the cartographic materiał from four different periods, and has taken advantage of the cartographic method of examining environmental changes. It has been established that considerable changes took place in the period between the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 21st century.The transformation observed was caused by natural and anthropogenic factors. The former included mainly cutting off the meanders and the changes of the main river bed caused by flood waters flow; the latter comprise all kinds of hydrotechnical works related, for example, to straightening the river, enforcing its banks , building the flood banks, etc.
