and rcstructure the display.

Data analysis is quick and casy. Inter-val time measurements can be pcr-formcd by placing up to three markcrs on the display. Onceplaced, the time of thc marker is displayed and the time delta between the marker and cursor is also displayed on the screen. By moving the cursor to thc desired wavcform, the signal or bus valuc is also displayed. This feature is very qscful when the bus value does not fit within the con-fines of the bus being displayed.

OrCAD/VST comes completc with a comprehensive library that includes models of all popular TTL, ECL, CMOS and memory dcvices. New models arc easily developed using thc complcte set of primitivcs and compo-nents modelling program which are sup-plied with OrCAD/VST.

OrCAD/VST runs on IBM PC/XT/AT or compatibles, and supports most common graphics adapter boards, printers and plotters. It requires 512K of system memory and either a hard disk or two DSDD floppy drives.

Schematic design program for PCs

Protel-Schematic is a Iow cost, high performance program for crcating schematic diagrams of digital and analog cir-cuits. It can be uscd as a stand-alone design packagc or if used in conjunction with the Protcl-PCB and Protel-Route programs, forms part of a powcrful autom atic printed Circuit board design system.

Protel-Schematic is supplied with morę than 2000 components in its li-braries with facilitics to crcatc addi-tional uscr designed components as rc-* quired.

A special feature of the program is its tcxt crcation ability. Apart from placing text on components it is also possiblc to place frec text on the drawing by in-voking a word processing function.

The program alłows you to produce individual schematic diagrams on sheets up to A0 (Mętne) or A (American) size. A net list of components can be pioduccd for individual drawings and this can be used as an input to a PCB layout program.

Many large circuits cannot be con-tained on a single sheet and thesc circuits must be drawn on two or morę sheets. Protel-Schematic has a simplc, convenient method of handling thesc circuits. A net list can be produced for

thc complcte Circuit, evcn though this mav be drawn on a number of sheets.

Icon libraries for AutoCAD

Edutcch Productions has released four ncw icon libraries to adapt the wcll-known AutoCAD design and draft-ing packagc for different applications.

The Timing and Motor Control library providcs icons for industrial elcc-tronics applications, to AS 1102 part 11 (1981). The Elcctrical Contractor library provides icons for the design and layout of building wiring, to AS 1102 part 8 (1983). The Elcctrical and Electronic library provides icons for schematics, logie diagrams and PCB patterns, to

Australian standards. And the Hvdrau-

lic and Pneumatic library providcs icons for preparing Circuit diagrams for thesc technologics.

All four libraries mesh corrcctly with AutoCAD and provide custom menus. Each library is priced at $250 plus tax if applicable.

GAD for hybrid Circuit design

Hewlett-Packard has added the hybrid Circuit design module HP 74307A for thick-film circuits to the HP Engi-necring Graphics System HP 74305A.

The hybrid Circuit design module is a

low-priced CAD system that provides a variety of tools to decrease hybrid Circuit devclopment time, incrcase product quality and reduce overall project costs.

Interactive and automatic features specifically tuned for the needs of hybrid Circuit designers include:

•    automatic thick-film resistor genera-tion;

•    starter library containing morę than 300 hybrid parts and subparts;

•    support of irrcgularly shaped conduc-tors;

•    thc ability to add dielcctric crossovers with a single menu selection; and

•    links from the schematic design module of HP Engineering Graphics System and from the Electronic Design Ssstem (HP 74250C).

Designs can be in English or metrie units. Parts are automatically entered for designs from materiał lists generated from the schematic drawing module or a materiał list entered by keyboard. How-ever, a materiał list is not rcquired be-causc parts data also can be entered in-tcractively. Designers can use a rat’s-nest generator to add connectivity information (airlines) between the parts.

The starter library can be customized and expanded using simple commands such as add linę, add polygon, move and copy. Information can be entered using a keyboard, mousc or tablet.

Flexible editing features move, rotate, stretch and mirror one or several parts ‘ or conductors on a grid with resolution to 0.00001”. Five placement snapping modes assure parts and conductors are placed precisely. Conductor width can vary along individual conductors, and from conductor to conductor. System prompts help designers easily route multilayer conductors.

Designers can generate a connection list from a completed layout, and be as-sured that it agrees with the connection list from thc schematic-drawing module by using a conncction-list compare program.

Manufacturing-material lists can include up to 20 fields of data such as part numbers and prices. An area-calcu-lating utility, which measures the pastę area on each layer (resistive, conductive and insulating), also generates information for calculating how much ink will be needed. In addition, designers can generate Gerber photoplottcr files by using thc optional HP Engineering Graphics System photoplottcr and N/C drill post-processor (HP 98310A).
