THE GEllMAN PLAY
The German play, f*Einer Musz Ileiratcn,” was given by the Senior German ('lass in Aj>ri 1, H)]f>. It was first presented at a Parents' Meeting in the Iligli Sehool assembly room.
The autlior, Alexander Victor Wilhelmi, is chiedy remembered for this one play. Ile was an aetor hiniself and was verv popular witli the theatre-going public—especially in minor parts. “Kiner Musz Ilciraten** shows Wilhelmi at his best in the invention of
elever dialogue and laughable situations.
This story is a satire at the expense of two Oerman professors, who are supposed to have no interest in lite beyond their studies and the writing of books. Cpon being informed by their Aunt Gertrudę, witli whom they live, that one at least must marry nnmediately, they dra w lots to determine who is to be the unlueky one. W hen the lot falls to the older. Jakob, he feels that carrying on a eourtship is too difficult for him. The younger brother, Wilhelm, comes to his aid and promises to show him how to go about winning Luise, a relatire of the aunt. Wilhelm goes at his love making very much m earnest, witli th<* result that in a short time he has won Luise s consent to marrv him. Of course Jakob and Gertrudę are ver.v much astounded, but evervthing is at last set-tlcd. Jakob-resigns himself to his fate and resolves to decote himself to his books, sińce only one of tliem is obliged to marry, anyway.
The cast of eharacters induded Vera Cole as Gertrudę: Huel Wright as Wilhelm: Francis Fisher, as Jakob. and .Mary Wilson as Luise.
