(3) A PROPOSAL TO AMBND THE INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPK UNDER THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF JOURNALISM AND TO AMEŃD TWO REOUIREMENTS UNDER THE SAME DEGREE;

AND (h) A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE FOREIGN LANGUAGS REQUIRBMENT FOR THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IR PHYSICS

The College of Arts and Sciences h&s filed with the Secretary of the Faculty Council the reconmendations published below (l) to establish an interdepartmental program in biology; (2) to establish a major in Russian for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, Plan I; (3) to amend the intrcductory para-graph under the Degree of Bachelor of Journal!sm and to amend two reąuirements under the same degree; and (U) to amend the foreign language reąuirement for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Fhysics. These reconmendations were approved by the College of Arts and Sciences by the circularization procedurę on January 19> 1959* The Secretary has classified these proposals of exclusive application and prlmary interest only to a single school or college*

Notice is hereby given that this legislation will be presented to the Board of Regents for adoption unless a signed protest, with reasons, is received by the Secretary of the Faculty Council from a member of the Council yithin five dayą of the datę of this publicatlom If a protest is receivedthe proposed legislation will be presented to the Faculty Council for actlon at its meefcing of February 16, 1959-

Tlie undersigned hereby petition the Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences for approval of the following motion:

That an interdepartmental program in Biology be approved, subject to existing degree reąuirements and consistent with the Major-Minor programs now in operation for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, Plan I, aa set forth in the College of Arts and Sciences Catalogue for 1957-1959, pages 32-^3-

/Degree Program for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, Plan I, with a major in Biology to be inserted on page 35 of the Catalogue of the College of Arts and Sciences under "Reąuirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, Plan I," under "C. Majors and Minors"

This program is intended for students planning to pursue teaehing career3.

Major: (a) Biology 607; (b) Bacteriology 316 or 629; (c) at least six hours of botany chosen from Botany 320, 321, and 328; (d) Zoolcgy 316k, and Zoology *łl*‘ or 332 or 3?6K; (e) enough additicnal hours clected in bacteriology, botany, or zoology or any corabination thereof, to total thirty semester hours, at least twelve of which must be advanced.

First Minor: Twe!ve semester hours of chemistry, physics, or mathematics.

Second Minor: Six semester hours of a subject listed under the first minor which is not offered as the first minor, or of cdue&tion.

For teacher certification under this program the reąuirements as set forth in the "Programs for Degrees in Combination with Provisiocal Certification (Permanent Type) for Teaehing in the Public Schools of Texas" roust be met.J
