Near the interior glazing surface, is an automated horizontal blind activated by micro-motors to raise, lower, and tilt the blinds. Within the interstitial space is envisioned a fan system that would be activated by photovoltaic panels to move air around the building to take advantage of heated winter air on the south by moving it to the north, creating a tempered environment, and reducing heat loss from the occupied spaces.

The surrounding district has been the heart of Japan's banking industry for decades, but is in need of urban renewal. The building design, with its luxury hotel and specialty shops, is meant to trigger revitalization of the area with its grandeur, dignity and simplicity.
